The shapes it pulls:  Average Inc means extinction.  In a world of over supply, vast choice and global transparency the old traits that marked out competitive advantage - such as resources, process and robustly hierarchical organisational structures - are next to useless.  Only genuine "funk" and creativity will unleash business advantage in this new and uncomfortable world.  At the very heart of this movement will be the mobilisation of talent across industries that will be dominated by "brains not brawn".  Organisations will have to confront the final taboo :- tapping into the emotional experience and imaginations of their customers to step far beyond the solid, reliable and predictable.

Also buried in the first chapter you will find the chilling aside (written back in 1999) "You never know where private terrorist Osama Bin Laden will strike next".
