43 resolutions?  What are the chances...

Richard Jones, iMagineer-in-Chief //  1 January 2007

New Year.  New Blog.  New Opportunities.  Welcome to 2007 everyone.

My only NY resolution is to not make any resolutions until at least mid January.  No point getting dragged into the normal week one routine of resolution -> broken promises to self -> bitterness and regret -> solemn retaking of resolutions -> broken promises etc

Better to amuse yourself with the bric-a-brac that the rest of the world is self-motivating itself into a frenzy over.  You can't beat 43things.com for life goal voyeurism.  The site has obviously been frothing at the mouth (in its usual understated way) over possible New Year resolutions.  Some crackers are turning up - check out "The Queen of Blather wants to knit a scarf" , "gain weight" (!), "Don't Buy Anything New in 2007", "find a unique, cute little travel mascot to take with me on all trips and photograph "him" next to touristy sites wherever i go...(kind of like the travelling gnome".

Equally, loads of focused, self-starting resolutions that will ring true with many a web 2.0 iMagineer out there.  Everyone has their own definition of 'the freshest air'.  Just reading the list is enough to stoke your determination to 'make a dent in the universe' in 2007.  Why aim lower?  There are plenty that really resonate with what I think the pseuds call self-actualisation : "start a photo journal - take at least a photo a day to represent my life", "identify 100 things that make me happy (besides money)" and "start a movement".  Not sure I like the sound of that last one.  There's medication for that kid, no need to make it a New Year resolution.

Hidden quietly but ruthlessly amongst the crowd is the real killer for web-heads everywhere : "Spend less time fooling around on the net and more time actually working".  Amen to that.

Post your own ideas in the freshest air forum.  Look out for my personal resolutions sometime in January, if I can be bothered.

Best of luck,

RJ
