Rock 'n' Roll iMaginations launch party in the Big Apple

Richard Jones, iMagineer-in-Chief //  17 December 2006

Getting a new site up and running is always the most exciting but exhausting part.  Having put most stuff together for rockandrollimaginations.com during early December I headed off for a mini break in New York.  And then I got there and thought - why not just chuck this stuff online?

Having promised myself this site back in January I decided "carpe diem" and let's get this show started.  Downloaded some extra content on the trusty iBook and shoved it online.  Here it is.  Celebrated with a Greenwich party (we were going to get some billboards in Times Square but thought that would be a but passe) reuniting with a few mates we had met in San Francisco last Christmas on honeymoon.

There is still loads to fix, missing links all over the shop, and it doesn't really hang together but who cares?   Sorry about all the non sequiturs.  I am working on it.  Fill out a customer complaints form.  The most important thing is that the heart and soul is there to build on, and I'm feeling pretty confident about that.  Hopefully people turning up for a browse and a chat agree.

Oh, and there is also the fact that Google (and the other search engines I am in thrall to get me some traffic) like new content on a regular basis.  So the way I see it :- no point spending all your pocket money on the fruit machine on the first day of your holiday is there?  Launching early means I have a decent backlog of insight and resources to load onto the site in the coming weeks and months.  i.e. plenty enough for those web spiders to spot and devour before reporting back to the Google Central that this place is red hot with activity.  Calculated, me?  Nothing could be truer to the opportunistic tendencies of rockandrollimaginations actually...

Whilst in NYC we took in the usual sights (me being a Manhattan virgin and all) including an appalling 3hr queuing nightmare to scale the Empire State.  No wonder King Kong took the direct route.  Still, it had to be done I suppose.  Highlight for me was Central Park (especially as I have a song in the works with that title) and Rebecca took a lovely shot of the John Lennon memorial that is now gracing the wallpapers section in the gallery.

I also experienced the Apple shop on 5th Avenue.  Pretty impressive but actually I have got to say the Chicago store had more wow factor for me, with its built in workshop theatre.  Both beat the pretty limited offering we have over here in Birmingham, UK.  Must try the London Regent Street store at some point.  Here's a gratuitous shot of me and Rebecca on 5th.

Happy holidays!
